457 Plans allow highly-compensated employees of certain tax-exempt organizations to contribute a portion of their salary to a retirement account. Often, contributions can be either pre-tax or Roth. In addition to the ability to save more for retirement, 457 plan participants are able to withdraw their savings prior to 59 1/2 without penalty.
